What Is an Apostille?

An apostille is a type of document certification that makes a document “official” for use in other countries. In general, the document is notarized or certified by a local official. Then we bring it to the California Secretary of State, who issues the apostille. We then return the document to you or send it directly to the receiving country.

Federal documents are apostilled by the US Secretary of State. Our partners in Washington, DC, will assist us with federal apostilles.

Some countries require an additional layer of certification; in these cases, we bring the apostilled document to the relevant country’s consulate or embassy for legalization.
